Moodle 3: Blocks: Administration: How to Create a Back-up File

General Information

Creating a Backup for a Moodle course saves all of the content of that course in an archive or ZIP file.  This preserves a version of a course which will not be affected by future changes, additions, or deletions that you make. You can later restore this back-up file into the same course, or into a new or different course.

In most cases you will be restoring a backup file for a Master Course into a new, blank Teaching Course at the beginning of a semester. At the end of a semester, you may also want to restore a backup file for your Teaching Course if you have made substantial changes.  A Master Course will be maintained on the Moodle site even when its related class is not being taught.
