Moodle 3: Hughes.net Subscribers Known Issue

Known Issue

Hughes.net is an ISP (Internet Service Provider) that uses a combination of satellite and phone to provide internet access to subscribers. It is primarily used in remote areas that are not serviced by cable or DSL internet providers. Because of how Hughes.net works, subscribers may have difficulty accessing the LSU Moodle environments.  The reason you may run into these problems is that Hughes.net, in an effort to speed access, aggressively downloads and caches webpages that are linked to whatever webpage you are currently looking at. In the case of Moodle that includes the logout link. This causes you to be logged out.

Solution

Hughes.net recently acknowledged this problem in their help forums.

Please Note:  The LSU Help Desk employees and field support personnel cannot assist with this action.

  • If disabling the acceleration feature does not work, the only other option at the moment is to find another location to access the internet that is not using Hughes.net as the ISP.
