Moodle 3: Activities & Resources: External Tools: Khan Academy

Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace.


To add the Khan Academy External Tool:

  1. Log in to Moodle. Click the green Edit button.

  2. Click the Add an Activity or Resource button on the topic you want to add the External tool to.

PLEASE NOTE: There are two different ways to complete the next step depending on which view you are in. If you see two separate drop-down boxes, click Add an activity and select External tool. For more information about this option, view Activity Chooser Options.

3. Select the External tool option from the list of activities and resources available. Click Add

  4. Give the activity a name then use the drop down box to choose which type of tool you want to add. In this case select Khan Academy. Click on Show More to display more settings.

  5. Click Save and Return to Course.

To Use the Khan Academy External Tool:

1. Select the Khan Academy activity

2. Clicking this link will redirect you to the Khan Academy resources directory. The folders contain numerous amounts of instructional videos. Choose the folder that contains the video you need to use. *Note: Some of the folders may contains subfolders. Look through the folders until you come across the video you want.

3. Click the blue embed button next to the video you want to attach to the link on your Moodle page.

4. Choose the embed size from the drop down list.

NOTE: If this window appears, then you will need to manually copy and paste the link into the Moodle link. Copy the entire link that appears in the box.
