Moodle: Activities & Resources: External Tools: MATLAB and Simulink Online Courses LTI 1.3
The MATLAB Grader LTI 1.3 and MATLAB and Simulink Online Courses LTI 1.3 streamline access to MathWorks resources directly within Moodle. No additional MathWorks accounts are needed when accessed through Moodle LTIs.
- MATLAB Grader LTI 1.3: Allows instructors to deep link to autograded customizable MATLAB coding assignments in their Moodle course. This allows direct access to assignments when needed in the Moodle course and allows for gradebook synchronization. After navigating through the Moodle link to the MATLAB Grader, students can open the assignment in MATLAB online to access newer features for more debugging options.
- MATLAB and Simulink Online Courses: Provides a Moodle integrated access to MathWorks' short self-paced online courses, like Onramps for MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, and certification courses. Students can follow the lesson in the browser version or desktop version of the software. As students progress, their completion progress is synchronized to Moodle.
A note about support: Because the external tool activity links your Moodle course to an external website, most issues encountered in this tool should be troubleshot through
MATLAB Support or the specific MATLAB customer representative who helped set up the course. The
LSU Faculty Technology Center can assist with any Moodle issues and can work with the tool's support team on Moodle-related gradebook sync concerns.
To Add the MATLAB Grader Activity:
- Follow the steps in Activities & Resources: Add an External Tool and select MATLAB Grader from the Preconfigured tool drop-down list.
- Give the MATLAB Grader external tool an Activity name, then Save and return to course. The "Select content" option is not used.
- Select the new MATLAB Grader activity and follow the instructions provided by MATLAB to select and modify an existing problem, create a new one, or import from another course.
- Tips:
- On the first entry from Moodle to MATLAB Grader you will be prompted to agree to the Terms of Use.
- You may be prompted at the top of the MATLAB page to sign in to your established MATLAB account linking it to your Moodle user account. This will allow you to access previous courses created in MATLAB Grader.
- To reuse problems across academic periods, go to the bottom of the MATLAB Grader page to My Courses, select the previous course and click copy on the assignments to reuse.
- Multiple attempts cannot be set in Moodle; however, the Pretest option will allow students to check their work before submitting and will allow them to have unlimited attempts until they reach the correct answer.
- Save the changes in MATLAB Grader and students will then be directed to the problem directly from Moodle.
- This can be repeated throughout the Moodle course to add other MATLAB Grader assignments.
