Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my  LSUMail  &  PAWS  Passwords Different from each other?   Why Can't the Passwords be Synchronized?

  • LSU Security Policies dictate that we DO NOT Synchronize a PAWS Password -- which is an On-Campus Password, with an LSUMail Password -- which is an Off-Campus* Password.

  • The LSUMail Password is considered an Off-Campus Password since it is a hosted solution provided by Microsoft Online Services.  Microsoft data centers are located in the continental United States and services are provided through the Cloud.

  • This type of Password Independence may seem inconvenient, but since this is a hosted solution it is necessary to keep the passwords separate in order to ENSURE THE SECURITY OF YOUR IDENTITY.   This would protect you and LSU in the case that your LSUMail Account  OR  the LSUMail System is compromised in any way.

Why Do I have to Sign in to the myLSU Portal & then still have to Sign in AGAIN when I Open LSUMail?

  • This can be easily avoided by going more directly to your LSUMail Account.  Instead of going to the myLSU Portal, open the following LSUMail page directly:

  • There is an advantage to having LSUMail set up this way.  Should there be a Natural Disaster, Hurricane, OR Other Event in which you CAN NOT  Access the myLSU Portal OR the LSU Network...  YOU CAN STILL ACCESS YOUR LSU E-MAIL (Provided you have internet access.)

Can my LSUMail Account get "Locked Out"?

  • Yes, LSUMail Accounts are locked out after 10 INCORRECT Password Attempts. Please try entering the password again and enter the random text from the security image when prompted, or wait several minutes (30+ minutes is recommended) and try again.
