LSUMail: Supported E-mail Programs


General Information

LSUMail supports an array of e-mail clients, which are programs that can run on all types of platforms & operating systems.  Below are some of the ways that you can connect to LSUMail.

Internet Browser

1. Open an Internet Browser then Open the website for LSUMail (

  • This is the quickest and easiest way to get to LSUMail.  You can check your e-mail without having to enter configuration settings.
  • Supported browsers will open LSUMail using the web interface called OWA (Outlook Web App).
    • If you are using an un-supported browser, you will be using a different version of OWA - "OWA Light". 
    • This "light" version of OWA is fully functional to read and send e-mail; however, it does not include all of the "bells and whistles" that are available in the full-featured version of OWA.
  • If you are having trouble, you may need to disable your browser's Pop-Up Blocker for the following exceptions:

  • The most recent version of Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari.
  • Visit Office 365 System Requirements for more detailed information about which browsers are compatible with LSU's version of Office 365.
    • Please note that LSU uses Office 365 Education E1.

POP / IMAP E-mail Clients that Support SSL & TLS

Mobile Devices

(This includes cell phones, iPads, tablets, etc.)

1. If your Smart Phone has a mail app that supports the ActiveSync method:

  • ActiveSync will synchronize e-mails, contacts and calendar entries with your phone.

2. Any Internet browser that supports JavaScript.

3. Any Mail app that supports the IMAP Protocol:

Incoming Mail Server (IMAP):      Port:  993
Encryption Method:  SSL

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):      Port:  587
Encryption Method:  TLS
