General Information

Workday is a new generation of cloud-based applications that service human resources, payroll, and financial needs for organizations. Many Universities are adopting Workday because of its ease of use, the flexibility the system provides, low cost of ownership, focus on providing functionality specific to higher education, and the collaborative nature of the functionality design process.

Workday has a modern interface and delivers services over the Internet. Workday stores everything in the cloud, eliminating the need to store and protect data locally. While we cannot customize the software to be unique to the University, Workday has many options which represent best in class business processes and functionality.

Workday also provides us the opportunity to work collaboratively with other higher education clients to develop functionality to suit the unique needs of higher education. This means Workday allows the flexibility and room to grow.

How Workday Affects Me

The majority of faculty and staff will need to learn new mechanisms for leave submission, procurement, travel requests, and expense reporting.

There will be targeted communications, presentations to various constituencies, e-mails, road shows, and updates to the LSU Workday website. Many customers will have the opportunity to be engaged in the testing phase and have hands-on experience with the new product prior to deployment.

  • Training -- Training sessions will be made available through in-person sessions as well as online learning resources once we are closer to deployment. There will be training opportunities held across the state for the convenience of all of the campuses.

  • Terminology -- Workday has its own set of terminology which will replace many of the legacy terms currently used. A list of common changes and terms may be found on the Workday Terminology webpage.

  • Security -- Workday data centers adhere to the strictest physical security measures. In addition, Workday encrypts every attribute of customer data within the application before it is stored in the database.
