Moodle 3: Activities & Resources: Quiz Question Types: Short Answer


Short Answer Questions require a response of one word or short phrase answers that must match one of the acceptable answers exactly. Answers may or may not be case-sensitive.

Create a Short Answer Question in the Question Bank

1. Open Moodle and select your course.

2. In the Administration block, click the folder next to Question Bank and select Questions.

3. Click Create a new question.

4. Select Short answer.

5. Click Add at the bottom.

6. Enter the Question name, Question text, and Default points which are Required Settings for the Short Answer Question.

7. Choose whether answer submissions are case-sensitive.

8. Add the various acceptable Answers and set the grade percentage for each. Instructors can also add feedback for each acceptable answer.

9. The Multiple tries settings are optional. If the Quiz is set to 'Interactive with multiple tries,' instructors must set a Penalty for each incorrect try and it will change the percentage deducted for incorrect tries. Instructors can also add Hints to help students on their subsequent attempts.

10. Tags are Optional and they allow an instructor to assign Key Words pertaining to a specific question.

11. Click Save changes when you have entered all required information.
